Two posts in one day—what’s with that? Let’s face it, my previous post today was a bit of a cheat—it was the same image I posted yesterday with a little colour change. Not exactly an earth shattering post, but it made my son very happy and so it was worth it.

OK, if my previous post was a cheat, then this one is a tease. Think of it as a trailer for an upcoming movie post. Actually, I will probably need to spread the information over a couple of posts.

The photo above is my first attempt at stacking images: a highly magnified picture of a common sow bug or woodlouse (order Isopoda). It is the result of 24 different pictures—each taken with a slightly different focus—combined together to create one image that has much more depth of field than could be normally achieved at this magnification.
